It's been a minute since our last blog post. In fact, we kind of forgot we had one, until we noticed it lurking in the depths of our website.
Anyway, things have been off to a great start for 2017. We're fortunate to have the entire year already planned out, with some amazing themes in the works, led off on a strong footing by FinTech Edition, which brought together a world-class group of startups disrupting the cumbersome – though highly lucrative – world of finance.
Moving ahead, we're just one week away from the VR Gaming Summit, our first big conference of the year, and our first major full-day event in over a year. The response couldn't be better. From investors to startups to major enterprises, we've brought together key players from across the rapidly evolving VR gaming industry, and we're really grateful to our friends at Digital Garage for supporting us with their space, and their amazing team, who have been collaborating alongside us to guide us towards our planned success.
After VRGS is over – along with the day or two of rest thereafter that may be needed – we'll be focusing back on our year of SF Beta and SF Startup events.
You may be wondering who is putting all these events together, why they're being organized, and what they have in common. The answer to that has changed over the years, but here's the current state of the union, so to speak.
At present, we are in the process of re-incorporating our business to facilitate our continued expansion and growth. The goal is to continue to serve the SF Bay Area as our focal point for events, while laying the groundwork for an expansion to NYC. Whether this comes through our own event team, or through partnerships – or both – is an open question, but the dialog is already taking place.
Our company is a for-profit venture, with events at the core of our business model. While the subject matter is new, the business model is, in some senses, old fashioned. We believe that there is a strong and supportive market for well-made events, and we work hard each day to provide fresh, consistent, and high-quality gatherings where people can share ideas, make new connections, and explore subjects at the forefront of innovation.
Our gameplay is as follows. Every month we will be hosting one evening gathering, alternating between our demo night (SF Beta) and our social mixer (SF Startup). The names sound the same, but the formats are a little different, and you may find yourself gravitating more towards one or the other – or simply enjoying the variety.
On top of this monthly schedule, we have several major conference in the works. Generally speaking, our main-day events take place from the early afternoon through the evening, and bring together about 100-150 people each. Rather than focus on massive expos that rely on quantity of badge scans more than quality of conversations, we believe that business is done best when a motivated, well-connected group of people have the opportunity to gather for a day to share their experiences, build on their connections, and learn from each other in an intimate, friendly, and convivial setting.
Our conferences fall into three primary brands:
Beyond this, we hope to pursue deeper partnerships that will allow us to more fully leverage not only the talents of our own team, but those of the amazing people who power the tech community both in San Francisco and around the world. If you're interested in working with us on any or all of the above mentioned topics, don't hesitate to drop us a line (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thanks, and may the winds be ever at your back.
